Tools for better conversations, clearer thinking and practical action

Good conversations are useful. Better conversations are even more useful when people can see what’s happening, map it out and decide what to do next.

I create practical tools that uncover patterns, surface different perspectives and turn ideas into something people can actually use.

Some are playful. Some are reflective. Some help teams map relationships, decisions or opportunities. I use them in workshops, facilitation and development projects, and some may also be available to use on their own.

The aim: less going round in circles, more clarity, stronger conversations and practical next steps.

Plant a Conversation Cards

A set of prompts designed to get people beyond polite surface-level chat and into useful conversations.

Useful for: team reflection, relationship-building, difficult topics, wellbeing, connection and getting people talking honestly.

What it does: reduces awkwardness, gives people a way in and makes it easier to discuss things that might otherwise stay unsaid.

Plant a Conversation Cards

Practical prompts and activities that bring more curiosity, energy and play into how teams work, without turning into forced corporate fun.

Useful for: meetings, problem-solving, team culture, creativity and breaking stale habits.

What it does: gets people participating, creates new ways of thinking and makes work feel less rigid while still getting things done.

Ethical Business Surgery

Plant a Conversation Cards

Ethical Business Surgery

A practical framework for pulling apart a business model, service or idea and seeing where value, income and impact are being missed.

Useful for: charities, social enterprises and businesses exploring income, partnerships, assets, waste, pricing or social value.

What it does: takes some of the fear out of commercial thinking and turns vague ideas into specific opportunities to test.

Thinking Canvases

Pause, Question, Connect, Experiment Framework

Ethical Business Surgery

Simple visual tools that help people map what is happening instead of trying to hold everything in their heads.

Useful for: collaboration, service design, business development, planning, team roles and decision-making.

What it does: makes complexity easier to see, exposes gaps and helps groups reach shared understanding more quickly.

Pause, Question, Connect, Experiment Framework

Pause, Question, Connect, Experiment Framework

My core framework for moving from “something isn’t working” to a practical next step.

PAUSE — see what’s really happening.
QUESTION — challenge assumptions and habits.
CONNECT — involve the right people and perspectives.
EXPERIMENT — test something practical and learn from it.

What it does: stops people jumping straight to solutions and gives teams a practical route from uncertainty to action.

How I use these tools

I don’t use activities just to fill a workshop. Every tool needs to do something useful: surface information, make a conversation safer, reveal a pattern, get different voices into the room or move people towards a decision.

Depending on the work, I might use one tool for ten minutes or build an entire session around it. You can encounter them through: workshops and facilitation; development projects; Experiment Labs; bespoke sessions.

Tell me what you’re trying to work through and I’ll suggest the tool, session or approach that fits.
